Response
My Response body of work has become my predominant body of work. It's my way to investigate and reveal my own reacting and responding attempts without judgement and hopefully with a bit of humor, inviting others to examine them and encouraging others to self-reflect. It's my way of letting people know that we're all flawed and that it's okay to be flawed; we don't have to hide it. In fact, we can playfully explore it and can find a sense of community in gazing upon creative renditions of who we are and what makes us tick. All of our billions of individual, communal, national and global reactions and responses dictate the current state of the world. Huge as this is, there isn't much mainstream investigation into looking into these topics. Awareness of how we react or respond just might lead us to think twice, to respond better, and, in turn, to transform our world.
I am currently focusing on five series in my Response body of work (each of which has its own unique color scheme, sculptural elements and selection of ribbon/papers):
1. Reactions (pieces explore knee-jerk reactions and immediate denial)
2. Model of Mulling: The Pascaline (pieces explore this historical system of calculation invented by Blaise Pascal in 1642)
3. Model of Mulling: Abacus and Increments (pieces explore this historical system of calculation and units and increments in general)
4. Model of Mulling: REM Sleep (pieces explore the swirling of subconscious thoughts and processes while we dream as we 'sleep on it' before responding)
5. Models of Mullers (pieces illustrate a human portrait with a particular object that has helped that person to come to a realization. The title of each piece is the realization)
New works to be created in 2026:
1. Non-Reaction: Total Denial, (4 x 6 inches)
2. Model of Mulling: The Pascaline's Sautoir, (48 x 60 inches)
3. Model of Mulling: The Pascaline's 3 Phases of Carry Transfer, (60 x 72 inches)
4. Model of Mulling: Abacus and Increments, US Patent Illustration, Abacus, October 6, 1964, (60 x 72 inches)
5. Model of Mulling REM Sleep - The Vortex in my Cortex 1, (60 x 72 inches)
6. Model of Mulling REM Sleep - The Vortex in my Cortex 2, (48 x 60 inches)
7. Model of a Muller: "There's No Place Like Home" (Dorothy Gale) (60 x 72 inches)
